|SUBJECT||:||The Journey to Performance Excellence 2001 Conference|
Purpose. To encourage participation at the Journey to Performance Excellence 2001 conference to be held January 30 - February 2, 2001 at the Anaheim Hilton & Towers, Anaheim, California; and to encourage participation in the Teams Excellence Showcase.
Background. The Journey to Performance Excellence conference is a valuable forum for sharing, recognizing, learning and networking with some of the nation's best workforce development organizations. The Journey is in its third year and is the official quality and continuous improvement conference of the Employment and Training Administration (ETA), and one of ETA's major national conferences. ETA is working in partnership with the Workforce Excellence Network and the National Association of Workforce Boards in presenting Journey 2001.
Journey to Performance Excellence 2001. The Journey is an excellent resource event for learning in your ongoing implemen- tation of the new workforce investment system, and a building block in our quest to create a world-class workforce system.
The objectives of this year's conference are designed to assist organizations in understanding the powerful cultural and organizational changes around us, and how to manage those changes for performance excellence. The program features dynamic speakers, relevant workshop sessions, rollout of new quality resources, intensive pre-conference training, teams showcases and more.

You will also see the first stage of ongoing recognition of excellence in our system through the Teams Excellence Showcase that will culminate in the Teams Excellence Award at an off-site event on the final night of the conference.
Teams Excellence Showcase. The Teams Excellence Showcase is a unique track that will highlight and recognize effective use of teams at the local, State and federal levels of the workforce investment system. The program is designed to promote
organizational effectiveness through team-based management and to recognize excellence at all levels of the system. The Teams Excellence Award is intended to promote a positive environment for sharing and learning. Teams participating in this program complete an Intent to Apply Form and a Teams Excellence application. Deadline dates for participation are October 31, 2000 for submitting the Intent to Apply form and November 17, 2000 for the full Application. See the attachment for information on the guidelines and the evaluation process.
Action. Please share this information with appropriate
staff and partners and encourage them to attend the Journey to Performance Excellence 2001 conference and encourage participa-
tion in the Teams Excellence Showcase. The registration brochure will be distributed throughout the workforce system during October 2000.
